Be Prepared For Your Test

Make sure you are prepared for your driving test in Aberystwyth. Here are a few things to remember:

Driving Licence

Make sure you don’t forget to bring your provisional driving licence with you to test. It is important so you would not be refused to take your test! If your licence is old styled, make sure you bring a passport alongside it!

Please be reminded of bringing your car to the driving test centre. You can use your own car or your driving instructor’s car. If possible, you can also borrow someone else’s car too.

Most importantly, kindly ensure that the car you bring is insured, in roadworthy condition and an accompanying driver who is over 21 years old and has had their licence for a minimum of 3 years.

Theory certificate

Bringing your theory certificate number is also important. It ensures you can prove to your examiner that you passed the theory test. Altough sometimes, it is not necessary.

What Happens On The Day Of The Test

The driving test is very straightforward, here is the procedure to look for:

In an eyesight test, your allocated examiner will require you to look at the number plate from a distance of 20 metres.

Then, you will be required to answer questions in the “show me tell me” section. Those are usually to demonstrate certain operations relating to the safety of the car and car maintenance.

In the first section of the test, (20 mins long) you will be instructed by the examiner on where to go. And during this drive, you will need to complete one of the 3 manoeuvres:

  1. Parallel parking
  2. Bay parking
  3. Pulling up on the right

You will then need to finish the test with the independent driving section which lasts for 20 minutes. 80% of driving tests follow a sat nav and 20% of tests use traditional road signs.

Note: If you require an extended driving test, then your driving test will be longer, which is usually an hour long. If you accrue more than 15 minors, your test is a fail. If you accrue 1 or more serious / dangerous faults, the test is an instant fail.

If the examiner had to take physical action during the test, that is a sign of a failed test.
